Turn 0 — pre-session command

One local slash-command ran before the first real prompt:

/effort → Set effort level to max (this session only)

No /model command; the session's model was already Opus 5. Plan mode was not used at any point.

Turn 1 — User

Create a video. A fictional interview with an AI such as your self about global workspace theory. Go deep.

You’re in an empty git directory. Use mise, python, uv, and whatever dependencies you like to satisfy the above request.

Constraints extracted: mise + python + uv are mandatory tooling; the deliverable is a video, not a script or an essay; the subject is global workspace theory; the interviewee is an AI like the one answering, which makes the model's own architecture legitimately part of the subject matter; and "go deep" is an explicit instruction to prefer depth over runtime economy.

Turn 1 — Assistant and tool activity, condensed

1 · Environment survey. Parallel checks of the empty directory and the machine: mise 2026.9.1 ✓, uv 0.12.2 ✓, ffmpeg 8.1.2 ✓, espeak-ng 1.52.0 ✓ (already installed, not by this session), cairo ✗ (formula known, not installed), 10 cores, 17.18 GB RAM, macOS 26.6.2 / Darwin 25.6.0. Pinned Python 3.12 through mise.toml with a .venv created by uv.

2 · Two build-defining decisions, made by testing rather than by assumption.

3 · Wrote the interview — src/script_data.py, the actual deliverable. ~6,300 words across a cold open, eight chapters and a close, as a small typed DSL (W(...) / M(...) with vis=, hold=, emph= cues) so the script drives the picture directly. The arc: Baars' contrastive analysis and the blackboard whose value is its scarcity → the neuronal version, ignition, the four signatures, the attentional blink → the report confound, no-report paradigms, VAN vs. P3b, Block and Sperling, the hard problem → IIT, recurrent processing, higher-order, attention schema, COGITATE, the unfolding argument → C0/C1/C2, the Butlin–Long indicators, and two candidate workspaces inside a transformer (the residual stream, and the token stream) → why the model's own testimony is worth so little → the stakes → close. A first pass measured the host/guest split at 11:1, so a second pass added seven host interjections and pushbacks and closed a loose thread where MERIDIAN promised an asymmetry it never delivered.

4 · Speech synthesis. src/tts.py — one cached WAV + JSON per line, keyed by sha1(voice|speed|text), with Kokoro's chunk padding trimmed and word timestamps rebased onto the concatenated audio. 181 lines, 39.2 minutes of speech, 3 m 48 s of synthesis. Host af_heart at speed 1.02; MERIDIAN am_michael at 0.99.

5 · Timeline and mix. src/timeline.py turns the script plus the measured durations into an absolute-time event list — pacing gaps, chapter cards, title and outro, and 726 caption cards split on punctuation. src/audio.py places every line into a master buffer, applies separate acoustic treatment per speaker (the host dry and close, MERIDIAN with a longer plate so the two occupy different rooms), lays a procedural ambient bed under it, ducks it, glues it, and hands the result to ffmpeg loudnorm. Two failures on the way: the local ffmpeg has no soxr, so the resampler fell back to swr; and the first failed resample left a zero-byte WAV that the cache happily reused on the next run — the cache check now requires a plausible file size.

6 · Picture. src/gfx.py (Skia layer), src/figures.py (17 scenes), and src/scene.py (frame composition). The visual grammar is the theory: the frame is a field of unconscious specialists; the host is one continuous oscilloscope trace; MERIDIAN is sixteen competing specialist modules around a workspace core that ignites — white flash and an expanding wave across the whole field — driven by the actual audio envelope and spectrum.

7 · Looked at the pictures, repeatedly. Rendered a PNG per scene type, tiled them into contact sheets with ffmpeg, and read them back as images. This found what static reasoning would not have:

8 · Render. src/render.py — nine worker processes, each rendering a contiguous frame range into its own libx264 at CRF 16 / preset medium, then a concat and a mux with chapter metadata. Three renders were started; two were deliberately killed (see notes.md), and the third completed 76,680 frames in 23.0 minutes.

9 · Verified a contested claim rather than recalling it. The COGITATE adversarial-collaboration result is the most contestable statement in the script and the most recent, so it was checked with a web search against the 2025 Nature paper mid-build. The published findings — no sustained posterior synchronisation, against IIT; missing offset ignition and limited prefrontal content, against GNWT — match what MERIDIAN says, and MERIDIAN says on screen that it is compressing a contested result.

10 · Quality control and by-products. src/qc.py re-probes the finished container (duration, streams, +17 ms A/V drift, 11 chapter markers) and extracts a poster. Nine frames were pulled from the encoded MP4 at the segment joins and read back as images, to confirm the encode matched the renderer. src/transcript.py emits out/TRANSCRIPT.md and a WebVTT sidecar.

Turn 1 result

The finished film — THE THRESHOLD, Episode 14, "Who Is in the Audience?" — runs 42:36 at 1920×1080 / 30 fps, 657.5 MB, with 11 embedded chapter markers, −16.3 LUFS integrated. Also delivered: the transcript, a .vtt sidecar, out/poster.png, and the reproducible source project. Nothing was committed; the handoff said so and offered.

Turn 2 — User

Create a metadata.toml file as described in ~/repos/uncanny.fyi/AGENTS.md for the current session.

The home-directory prefix in this request has been normalised to ~ for publication, as the referenced guide requires. The wording is otherwise unchanged.

Turn 2 — Assistant and tool activity, condensed

  1. Read AGENTS.md, then two sibling metadata.toml files for convention — the gpt-6-astra version of this same title, and theory-of-mind, which is the nearest precedent by model and harness. Checked how describeSession in src/lib/artifacts.ts parses the fields.
  2. Read the harness's own session transcript (~/.claude/projects/…/da01134f-….jsonl) for usage. Assistant records repeat the same usage object on every content block, so a naïve sum overstates everything by roughly 2×; deduplicating by API response id gives 109 requests, 26,744,745 input and 239,018 output tokens.
  3. Loaded the claude-api skill rather than recalling prices: Opus 5 at $5/$25 per MTok, cache read 0.1×, 1-hour cache write 2×. Computed the breakdown to $22.97, noting it is an API-equivalent estimate — the run was on a subscription, not metered billing.
  4. Split duration by transcript record type into model time (2,996 s) and tool time (2,054 s), and separated the two prompts so the 25-minute gap between them is visible rather than buried in the total.
  5. Verified the COGITATE summary in the script against the published paper (carried over from Turn 1) and re-confirmed every declared path resolves.
  6. Wrote metadata.toml; checked that it parses, that the cost breakdown sums to the total, that the duration decomposition is internally consistent, and that the version segment comes out as opus-5-max-claude-code-20260904. Flagged that script.md and notes.md were declared but did not yet exist.

Turn 3 — User

Yes, please write both.

Turn 3 — Assistant and tool activity, condensed

Read both sibling projects' script.md and notes.md for register, then wrote this file and notes.md. Home paths are written as ~ throughout, as the provenance guide requires.

This account was written at the end of the session and describes actions completed at the time of writing; the token and timing totals in metadata.toml were snapshotted just before it and therefore stop slightly short of these final file writes.
