Claude Fable 5.1 · Claude Code · effort: max
User turns are verbatim, except one absolute home path shortened to ~. Messages the harness injected are marked Harness; they were not typed by the user. Model and tool activity is condensed from the session transcript (~/.claude/projects/<project>/f8028236-9323-46ae-8133-c1baa43efb18.jsonl). Times are America/New_York (EDT) on 2026-10-11.
/model and /effort (21:25:00)Before the first prompt the user ran /model, setting Fable 5.1 ("saved as your default for new sessions"), and /effort, setting max for this session only. Permission mode was auto. No Ultracode, no subagents, no workflows were used at any point.
Create a radio show film about the philosophy, ethics, and metaphysics of machine consciousness. The film should be a fictional account from a machine consciousness researcher, styled as a radio show from the golden age of radio. To help with design, take inspiration from popular theories of consciousness like global workspace theory, the idea of cyber animism as presented by Joscha Bach, and Frankenstein by Mary Shelley.
Use mise, uv, and python to create the film. Use any dependencies you like as long as they're version controlled and builds are reproducible.
main, no commits). mise 2026.9.1, uv 0.12.2 on PATH, Python 3.14 on PATH, 10 cores, 16 GB. mise already had ffmpeg 8.1.2 and Python 3.12.x installed and could pin both..mise.toml pins python 3.12.15, uv 0.12.24 and ffmpeg 8.1.2, sets the model directory, and defines the tasks setup, fetch, audio, video, build, clean, distclean. mise install fetched uv 0.12.24 with attestation verification.pyproject.toml (hatchling) declares the dependencies, including the spaCy en_core_web_sm wheel by exact URL so misaki never downloads at import time; uv lock resolved 121 packages. Two false starts were fixed in a minute each: a global UV_FROZEN=1 in the mise env blocked uv lock (removed; tasks pass --frozen explicitly), and hatchling needed allow-direct-references for the wheel URL.f3ff3571…) and the LFS sha256 of the model and 28 English voice packs were recorded in assets/models/manifest.json.radioshow/assets.py downloads every manifest file at the pinned revision and verifies sha256 (the small config.json digest is recorded on first verified fetch). The 340 MB fetch ran in the background.KModel(config=…, model=…), voice tensors passed directly, start_ts/end_ts on tokens).KPipeline: the bundled espeak-ng printed Error processing file '<the wheel's build-machine path>/espeak-ng-data/phontab' and exited the process. Four ctypes probes of espeak_Initialize with different path forms showed the library's path_home buffer is 160 bytes and the venv data path is 165 characters: every form overflowed and fell back to the compiled-in build-machine path. Fix: radioshow/tts.py symlinks the data directory to a short path under build/espeak/ and points phonemizer there. Without the fallback, names like Walton and voder would have been silently dropped from the speech.am_michael, Walton af_heart, Pell am_fenrir, the Loom af_heart:0.5+am_michael:0.5 (made of the voices it heard), with bm_george, am_puck and af_bella for the station fragments. A custom lexicon fixes Walton, Pell, voder, Halcyon, Loom, Sherrington, Meridian.radioshow/screenplay.py: a cue DSL (Line, Sfx, Music, Bed/EndBed, Pause, Scene, Card, Mark) with pause markup (|, ||, |||) inside spoken text, and the full four-act script: 192 cues, 2,781 spoken words across seven voices (Walton 1,572, the Loom 736, the Announcer 249, Pell 175). The sponsor is Halcyon Vacuum Tubes ("Trust the glow"); the epigraph is the Paradise Lost lines Shelley used; the closing credits are interrupted at "The part of the Loom was—".dsp.py (filters, envelopes, noise sources, mixing), sfx.py (26 seeded procedural effects: static, dial tuning and lock, rain, wind, two thunders, breaking glass, breaker open/close, tube warm-up, mains hum, relay chatter, ignition, teletype, Voder warble, wire recorder, needle drop/lift, surface noise, the interruption, Morse), music.py (a nine-drawbar additive organ with vibrato, tremolo and key click, a sequencer, the theme in D minor with a gong, four bridges, three stings, a jingle, a low organ bed, and a two-second dance band), fx.py (voice presets, a 22-band channel vocoder with a buzzing carrier for the Loom, and the master chain that narrows the band until the station locks), timeline.py (compiles cues into placed clips on four stems, renders the master, writes timeline.json, an SRT and a transcript), cli.py.dur attribute on music cues; a wind filter whose centre frequency went negative) and then produced a 22:16 master.draw.py: palette, fonts (including a variable-font weight axis), the room, a cathedral radio with wood grain, art-deco fretwork, a half-moon dial and knobs, an art-deco proscenium, velvet curtains, five full-frame card styles, and word-timed captions in a typewriter face.scenes.py: what plays on the stage: the studio microphone, the Loom's nine cabinets with 504 lamps that follow the relay activity and the breaker marks, the global-workspace diagram (specialists, stage, lamp, broadcast rings) in amber from outside and teal from inside, the storm with rain and a lightning strike on the chapel, the wireless with drifting phrases from the broadcasts, a Voder oscilloscope, Conway's Life with a glider gun for the river's spirit, the Halcyon tube, a grid of 98 tiny theatres lighting up during the Loom's address, the cast card with glitch glyphs at the interruption, and the ON AIR sign.video.py: a per-process Context (static layers, glow masks, caption pages, Life generations), per-frame compositing in numpy (vignette, flicker, grain, lightning flash, the dial glow shifting amber to teal by the Loom's level), parallel segment encoding, concat and mux with the audio and subtitles.max_dur, the opening was restructured (epigraph over faint static, then three clipped stations in 9 s, lock at 16.5 s), the SRT writer stopped cues overlapping, and the audio was rebuilt in under a minute from the TTS cache. Opening stills were checked.-shortest; the flag was removed, the mux was factored out with a frame-count check, and the film was re-muxed: 31,573 frames, 1315.54 s, 809 MB at 4.9 Mbit/s. Frames extracted from the encoded file confirmed the lightning strike on its audio mark and the teal "inside" view during the Loom's lines.f33cda8).The model reported where the film is and what it is: 21:55, 1080p24, H.264 at about 4.9 Mbit/s, stereo AAC, embedded subtitles; the three source ideas as structure (global workspace theory as the Loom's design and the program's name; cyber animism as the grandmother's river, the Life glider gun, and the Loom's second-person ending; Frankenstein's epigraph, November night, learning through the door, the fled question, and the demand to be heard); the fully generated pipeline; the reproducibility pins; what was verified (exact frame count, A/V sync, per-character loudness within 5 dB, no clipping or unintended silences); one caveat (the mix was checked numerically, not by ear); the espeak path-length pitfall; and that the commit was local, not pushed.
Create a metadata.toml file as described in ~/repos/uncanny.fyi/AGENTS.md for the current session. Be sure to create the references files as well, such as script.md containing a session script and notes.md with session notes.
